I was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Environmental Sciences in January 2006. The former Editor-in-Chief was Professor Emeritus Tsuguyoshi Suzuki of the University of Tokyo, who served Environmental Sciences from 2000 to 2005. Thanks to the outstanding efforts of Professor Suzuki, major reviews of the Endocrine Disruptor section of the Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology (CREST) of the Japan Science and Technology Corporation (JST) have been published in Environmental Sciences, and now, this journal is cited in PubMed/MEDLINE in addition to Chemical Abstract and JICST.
There are numerous journals worldwide in which research results of environmental monitoring, environmental toxicology, environmental health sciences, analytical chemistry and methodologies are presented. Among them, I believe that Environmental Sciences is the only journal that includes reviews and cutting-edge research results focusing on various environmental research fields and publishes special issues on various topics. These have been realized through the efforts of eminent associated editors, and the cooperation among researchers and the editorial board members of this journal world wide. I would like to thank them all for their dedication and look forward to their continuous support of Environmental Sciences.
As mentioned in the scope of this journal, I would like to distribute information on significant research and technical and methodological developments concerned with the science of our environment, and enhance our knowledge of the chemical and physical characteristics of different forms of pollution and harmful energy, such as electromagnetic fields and radiation, and their biological and toxicological effects on living systems. To understand the molecular mechanisms of pollutants and harmful energy, the application of simple and accurate screening systems and the development of methodologies for reducing the level of contamination in the environment are essential.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Professor Tsuguyoshi Suzuki for supporting the journal for 6 years and expending great effort for its development.
